The Boogerman

Last night, Joshua and I were reading a book in bed. When we looked up, we were frightened to find Cameron ominously looming over us picking his nose. It is so good to have the boys back. I have missed them since they were gone over the holidays. It was our first time I've been apart from them for so long.

Poisonous

"Poisonous...poisonous...poisonous," Joshua said singling out blueberries that had a bit of red on them. He took them out of his bowl and lined them up on the side as if they were diseased.

Cameron copied him, but didn't discriminate between the "good" blue blueberries and the "bad" blueberries marred with red. He just took the remaining berries out of his bowl and said, "Poisonous...poisonous...poisonous." Then he looked at them and said, "Maybe I should try one to make sure they are poisonous." He finished his berries and the ones Joshua segregated.

Testicles

A while ago, Joshua asked me how he was born and if the doctors had to cut me open. This is what I told him: "I went to the hospital complaining of stomach pains and the doctors gave me the news that I was the host of an alien parasite. They cut me open and all this black ooze came out, but the doctors reassured me that if I meticulously fed this parasite, he would become a boy. Sure enough I fed the ooze and it became Joshua. All that is left of the parasite is this patch of black on your head, which Cameron doesn't have because he is not an alien." You guys should have seen his eyes when I told him the story.

So tonight in the bathtub, Joshua told me something a parent of a boy never wants to hear: "Mommy, I am missing one of my testicles! I think I am really an alien." He enlisted me to help him find his missing testicle. Yes, we did find it. Phew! Cameron and Joshua then spent the rest of bath time inspecting each other's testicles. I told them to be gentle handling each other's packages. "Why?" Joshua asked. Uhhh...I didn't know what to tell him so I said, "It will help you grow into a man." To my surprise, Joshua said, "I don't want to grow up, so I am going to squeeze them harder." Uhhh...Don't do that....uhhh..."When you get older, it will give you super powers" was my scary explanation. At least he stopped.

Before you judge, I spent the morning explaining to Joshua about the economy and the significance of Obama getting elected as president of the United States, so I felt like I did part of my job today.
