Testicles

A while ago, Joshua asked me how he was born and if the doctors had to cut me open. This is what I told him: "I went to the hospital complaining of stomach pains and the doctors gave me the news that I was the host of an alien parasite. They cut me open and all this black ooze came out, but the doctors reassured me that if I meticulously fed this parasite, he would become a boy. Sure enough I fed the ooze and it became Joshua. All that is left of the parasite is this patch of black on your head, which Cameron doesn't have because he is not an alien." You guys should have seen his eyes when I told him the story.

So tonight in the bathtub, Joshua told me something a parent of a boy never wants to hear: "Mommy, I am missing one of my testicles! I think I am really an alien." He enlisted me to help him find his missing testicle. Yes, we did find it. Phew! Cameron and Joshua then spent the rest of bath time inspecting each other's testicles. I told them to be gentle handling each other's packages. "Why?" Joshua asked. Uhhh...I didn't know what to tell him so I said, "It will help you grow into a man." To my surprise, Joshua said, "I don't want to grow up, so I am going to squeeze them harder." Uhhh...Don't do that....uhhh..."When you get older, it will give you super powers" was my scary explanation. At least he stopped.

Before you judge, I spent the morning explaining to Joshua about the economy and the significance of Obama getting elected as president of the United States, so I felt like I did part of my job today.

Songbird

When ordinary events happen, Cameron uses the occurrences to spontaneously break out into song (I feel like I am in a musical).  Here are some of songs he has created:

When I buckled the boys into their carseats, he sang:  "Buckled together"
When I unbuckled them, he sang: "Unbuckled, unbuckled, unbuckled..."
When we talked about eating popsicles, he sang my favorite:  "Folly, lolly popsicles"
When Joshua asked if we could do something, I said "maybe," so Cameron sang:  "Maybe, probably"
When Joshua complained about having a charley horse in his leg, Cameron sang about a horse he could ride:  "This is my charley horse"

Get It Together

Joshua admonished Cameron for being naughty in the car.  "Get it together, Cammie, or else you can't have your poo poo party."

Heart attack

Joshua told me tonight that he will help calm me down if I ever get frustrated with him or Cameron because he doesn't want me to have a heart attack and die.

Tooth Fairy

July 15, 2008 - Last night Joshua lost his first tooth while we were at the Mama Gym (Total Woman). He said he was so proud of himself and I was so excited for him. We put the tooth in a little velvet bag and stuck it underneath his pillow at night. At 6 a.m.

Joshua woke up saying the words no parent wants to hear: "Mommy, the tooth fairy didn't come." I was panicked; Joshua was sobbing.  Aaargh! How could I have screwed up his first tooth fairy experience?

At my insistence, he fell back asleep. So at 6:30 a.m. I am fumbling
through my purse looking to find a quarter, only to find nickels and
dimes. Drat! Luckily for me, I find a quarter in my car. Joshua
woke up at 7:30, but he didn't look under his pillow and I had to tell
him to look again. Wow! "Look, a shiny quarter!" He seems
skeptical...maybe I should tell him about Santa and get this whole
charade over with!

Scratch

December 31, 2007 -  Cameron scratched Joshua's face and I showed him what he did.  He said, "I'm sorry.  I am being naughty."

Warm Hearts

December 10, 2007 - At Burbank Mommy & Me, I read Joshua a sweet Christmas story and he hugged me:  "Thank you, Mommy.  You make my heart warm."  Cameron comes up to him and puts his hand on his heart and says, "Yes, his heart is warm."

Birth of Joshua

Joshua asked me why the doctors had to cut open my stomach when he was born.  This is what I said:  "The doctors told me that I had a parasite growing in my tummy and it wasn't coming out, so they had to cut me open.  They pulled out this bundle of black ooze and said, 'Mrs. Fernandes, you must nurse the baby so the parasite will leave the host.'  So for months, I nursed the black ooze until one day, all the black ooze was gone except for the black patch on your head.  But the doctors warned me that one day the parasite might come back and then you will become Venom."

Cinderella

Yesterday we went to Keira's 2nd Birthday party.  The Haleys live on the westside, which is about 25 minutes away.  The drive almost lulled Cammie to sleep even though it was only 10 a.m.

"Don't fall asleep, Cammie, or you will miss the birthday party,"  I told him.  He perked up instantly, "Are they going to have a Cinderella bouncy castle?  Cinderella is my favorite plincess."  I thought Joshua would totally make fun of Cammie, but he agreed that if he was a girl, he would like Cinderella too.

During the week, he spends a lot of time at Dominique's house and she has two girls who are always dressed up in princess costumes.  At her house, Cammie's favorite dress is the purple princess dress and his favorite doll is the princess with the pink dress.

When we got home from the party, Cammie opened his party favor from Monica (an adorable  piggy bank paint kit).  "I didn't get a plincess,"he whined.

XOXOXO to Mom

Every morning it is a chore to try to get Joshua (and Cameron) out of the house and to school before the gates close.  R.D. White is only 5 minutes away, so it is not like we have to fight through LA traffic to get there.  When we are late (and it has only happened once this school year when it rained), I have to go to the office and get a tardy slip for Joshua.  I was going through old photos and I saw a note that Joshua wrote to me on March 30.  I remember that morning as being particularly hectic because I was working in the classroom.  I told Joshua to get his shoes on and he said he couldn't because he needed to finish writing something.  I was furious.  "Just one more minute," he said.  "Joshua!" I screamed and then he handed me what he was writing:  "XOXOXO to Mom.  Love, Joshua"  Sigh!  Now I have the photo of his note to remind me what a sweet little boy he is.

It's Morning Time

Cameron came to my bed this morning and said, "It's morning time even if you don't want your watch to say it's morning time...it's morning time!"

Cameron

"Goodbye big poo poo and little poo poo," Cameron said as he flushed the toilet.
